Hunting Information and Game Areas

Largest of the East Africa countries, Tanzania has a total land expanse of 363,000 square miles. Within this area are situate some of the best hunting grounds to be found on the African continent.

A sizeable portions of Tanzania’s land expanse in the form of open hunting areas, controlled area’s and demarcated hunting blocks in game reserves, have been created strictly for the purposes of safari hunting. The quota of animals to be hunted in these areas maintains an ecological balance of various species to be found there.

Thus, apart from offering the hunter a unique sporting opportunity, a program of game control and conservation is exercised at the same time. Tanzania offers a wide variety of game animals. Results from previous safaris show that many clients have bagged a high proportion of extremely good trophy heads and ivory.

Depending on what hunters would like to shoot, but Elephants hunting is the best done from early September to end of November. Hunters are required to produce Cities Import Permit from their countries before hunting permits are issued to them. This is to conform with International Conventions Treaties. Regulations here require that only long tusks weighing above 55LBS, each or measuring 1.75 m long to be hunted.

Safari hunting is possible from July through March, with the closed season from April through June.

Our 2003 safari will take place in the Selous Game Reserves , South Massai land “Open Area”, Lolkisale “Game controlled Area” Lukwati “Game Controlled Area”.

SELOUS GAME RESERVE

The Selous Game Reserve, 54 000km of totally unspoilt wilderness and named after the renowned hunter and naturalist, Frederick Courtney Selous, a famous hunter and naturalist who was killed and buried there in the 1st  World War, is the largest unexploited wildlife area in Africa.   Through its terrain flows the mighty Rufiji, Ruaha and Kilombero rivers full of Hippopotamus and Crocodile. Our concession has good concentrations of Plains game, and large herds of Buffalo, resulting in a healthy lion and leopard population.

``

The game available to hunt includes Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, Sable, Greater Kudu, Nyasa Wildebeest, Litchenstein’s Hartebeest, Common Waterbuck, Hippopotamus, Chobe Bushbuck, Crocodile, Warthog, Bushpig, Zebra, Common Duiker and more.  Excellent success rates on all species offered can be expected.   The terrain varies from thick riverine bush to hilly mountainous miombo woodland.

Good hunting tracks are cut throughout the area and the best months to hunt this concession is from late August to mid-September.  Safaris undertaken in the Selous area, usually commence and terminate in Dar es Salaam
